The Laxey Mines Railway - home of Ant and Bee!

The Laxey Mines Railway is the latest recruit to the steam preservation scene on the Island. Two replicas of the original Stephen Lewin (of Poole) locos which worked the line until it closed in 1929 have been built. They are named Ant and Bee. Gauge is 19in (about 48.25cm). The line passes under the Laxey to Ramsey road in a tunnel so tight that the loco driver has to sit down while the train passes through. I can tell you now that you cannot see much from that position, especially when travelling up the line towards the mine.
