The Diamond - Installation
April 2007

In April 2007, the time came for us to put the final piece of the jigsaw in place.

The old access point from the industrial railway was removed.

View of the worksite from the new line.

View from the direction of the workshop. The nearest line is the line around to the loco shed.

The crossing had already been lifted over the fence.

Railway volunteers dig out the old ballast ready for the diamond to be lifted into place.

Spare ballast was loaded into V-skip wagons.

Once that was done, the museum crane was used to lift the crossing into place.

Volunteers steady the load as it is lowered carefully into place.

Left a bit, right a bit, not too far. That's it!

A bit of levelling and packing and we were ready to join it all up.
