Railway Gala Weekend

Sat/Sun 10/11 July 2021

Having had to cancel our 2020 Gala, we don't have to explain that, there was much doubt cast on the feasibility of running the 2021 event. Much hope sprung from Boris's "Road Map" which aimed to remove most of the legal restrictions by mid June so we started planning.

Model Railway Exhibition

So far we have managed to get some modellers to attend with a selection of small layouts and details of what these are will be published later. But we are planning a variety.

We already have Humphrey's Barn being occupied by the Surrey & Sussex Black Sheep Freem0n30 group with their large modular layout which they can piece together in seemingly limitless configurations. You'll just have to come and see what they've concocted this time.

A number of other local modellers, all of them welcome supporters of the Museum for longer than some of us can remember. Please come and support the event.

Train services

Out on the 12"/ft model, we will be running our usual service of steam and diesel passenger trains interspersed with some of our less often seen industrial fleet of locos and wagons. Come and listen, watch, photograph - you can even smell some of them - and enjoy a day out with a railway theme at Amberley.

Please note that all tickets MUST be booked in advance on the Museum's Web Page.

Future Gala Weekends - Planned Dates

As you will probably be aware, we try to publicise our Gala Weekend dates well in advance so that modellers who support us with their layouts and other displays can put our dates in their diaries. The other issue was that more often than not our dates clashed with another major local show (the Wiston Steam Rally). This clash probably had more of an effect on our visitor number than theirs. Changes are afoot for the Wiston event and we have heard that in 2022 it is to be held n the grounds of Parham House, which is very close indeed.

We are, therefore, considering our date options. Again, all we can advise is for you to check back or look out for details on social media including Facebook.

If you would like to show off your layout, promote your society or bring your trade stand to our Gala event (railway and transport related please!) then please get in touch. (Click here to contact us) Each year we welcome several new exhibitors and many of them become regular participants in our show.

Pictures from previous Gala Weekends can still be viewed.
